With the crystal clear waters (over100 feet visibility) of the Caribbean Sea the peninsula is indeed a diver's paradise.
A forty minute flight with Maya Island Air south from Belize City will take you to a narrow stretch of beach along the Caribbean Sea known as the Placencia Peninsula.
Along the Peninsula you will find Maya Beach, the Garifuna Village of Seine Bight and at the very south end the Village of Placencia.
Placencia is known for it friendly people and great fishing. The hotels in the village are mostly family run and are very hospitable. High quality resort services are definitely a part of the menu. Among the local fruit trees and the village sidewalk, eateries, pubs; tourist shops can be found.
The local guides are always ready to take you fishing, snorkeling or for an exciting walk along jungle trails. Placencia offers both shallow and deep water sea fishing as well as fishing along the reef, river banks and mangrove lagoons.
For divers and snorkelers a short boat ride to the cayes along the coral reef will put them into an underwater paradise. For those more into exploring the tropical rainforest, tours are available from the hotels.
